Hey, New York.
HOW TO WITH JOHN WILSON
COMEDY, CINÉMA-VÉRITÉ
Documentarian and coolest person ever, John Wilson explores New York letting the city and the people who live inside it guide an endless story. It’s a look into the absurd and silly strangeness of other's lives, but captures them in a uniquely human way. All the while being funny too. I would recommend this show to anyone ever. It is a joy to experience.
YOLO: CRYSTAL FANTASY
COMEDY, ANIMATION
Sarah and her shitty best friend Rachel travel Wollongong, Australia and beyond getting into strange predicaments and navigating though their terrible friendship. YOLO does a great job of writing women (the bar is on the ground), and is always funny. The first episode is the greatest episode of television ever and if you don’t like it I’m gonna say you hate women.
I AM NOT OKAY WITH THIS
DRAMA
This show successfully portrays teenagers without making them screen addicted caricatures, all the while being interesting, natural and funny. The world is fully built, the characters are unique, and the cinematography from Justin Brown who also did End of the Fucking World is beautiful. The characters are so so special. Introvert representation too. They also made a fake band for the show named Bloodwitch with a real album which is actually really good.
HAHA, YOU CLOWNS
ANIMATION, COMEDY
A wholesome look into the lives of brothers: Tristan, Preston, Duncan and their widowed father. The boys are emotionally intelligent, caring and altogether positive examples of healthy masculinity and personal growth. These wholesome moments layer with strange, off-putting animation which when combined become very funny in contrast. It’s a show that teaches you to laugh at anything, because often the most mundane things are the funniest.
BIG LITTLE LIES
DRAMA
This show genuinely knocked me off my feet. LIKE THOSE ARE MY GORLS. I thought it was going to be a soap, but the depth attained in this show is on levels like no other. Stellar performances from every single person in this cast, as if it wouldn’t be with Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Reese Witherspoon, Zoë Kravitz, Alexander Skarsgård to name a few. If you don’t think you would like this just try anyways, it is absolutely brutally entertaining.
